69th Dane of the Year

hosted by the M&WEGDC

Sunday 16th October 2022

held at The Connexion, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry

I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to the committee of the Midland & West Great Dane club for all of their hard work, working up to & throughout the day, as the sponsoring club, for this years’ show. Thank you also, to the Dane of the Year committee & both the Great Dane Club of Wales & The Northern Great Dane club, for their collective support of this prestigious show.

Sadly, which seems to be the way of the Dog World at the moment, entries are still on the decline & although Dane of the Year is relatively speaking, an Open show, the entry of 74 was comparatively good, compared to many of the Championship shows this year. So that was very pleasing.

However, with many absentees on the day of the show & with our usual hall unavailable, the atmosphere, was a little flat. Having said that, those that came along to support this lovely show, ensured me, that they had a super day & with some beautiful rosettes on offer, went home happy. So I would like to thank all of those that entered, as there would be no show without them.

I am also, truly grateful to all those that brought along raffle prizes & to those that bought tickets. There were some lovely prizes on offer & we made a profit of £108.50 on the raffle.

We had also purchased some new stock & made a total sale of £60.00.

With Jackie Wood, unavailable due to illness (sadly Jackie passed away on Thursday 20th October), and for the first time, just the one judge was decided upon. To have the great honour, of judging both sexes this year was Miriam Armstrong, previously, of the Cheridane Affix, for those of us, old enough to remember!

The Dogs gained an entry of 19 exhibits, with 26 entries. Our judge found her best dog in Heather, John & Candice Dysons Brindle boy, Ch Samdice Nobody Does it Betta (AI). Reserve best dog went to Mike Jacques & Phil Kirbys Fawn, Jacqukir No Regrets. The best puppy dog went to Jill Cranfields fawn, Zefathers Ralph Lauren & best veteran was Ch Ravandane Deal me in with Elbarevol.

After a short break, the judging commenced with the start of the bitches. Out of an entry of 39 exhibits, with 48 dogs, Miriam found her best bitch in Lisa Newtons yearling fawn, Shlarra Some Kind of Miracle. Reserve best bitch went to Dave Simpsons black Renescent Cream of the Crop. Best puppy bitch was Annette Harrisons Fawn, Rioco My One & Only. The best veteran bitch was Liz Cooks Ziran Zsa Zsa.
